When you do research, you're locating information that helps support your ideas. That information may come from a variety of sources.  Whenever you include information from a source--an idea, a phrase, a quote--you must give credit to the source by citing it in your work. "Citing" a source means that you state where you found the information so that others can find the exact same information.

Students are reminded that plagiarism is a serious infringement. When a student uses the words or ideas of another in a paper or presentation, the student is required to cite the original work. Also, the student is required to acknowledge all who have contributed significantly to the paper or course assignment. The academic consequences for students caught plagiarizing are serious and can include receiving an "F," dismissal from a course, or even suspension from SBC.
